The Candlelight series welcomes its audience to the French Church in the heart of Bern, where the innovative Zurich-based ensemble More Than Classic transforms the historic space into an intimate concert hall. The French Church is the oldest church in the city, dating back to a Dominican monastery founded in 1269. Built between 1270 and 1285, it has been the place of worship for French-speaking Protestants since 1623 and still retains its rare frescoed rood screen from 1495. Inside, the nave without a transept, medieval murals, and stained-glass windows create a tranquil atmosphere, and the Baroque and Neoclassical facades, along with the serene interior, have made the church a popular venue for live music.
