The Französische Kirche is the city’s oldest church and dates from a Dominican monastery founded in 1269; it was built between 1270 and 1285, became a place of worship for French‑speaking Protestants in 1623 and still retains its rare frescoed rood screen from 1495. Inside, a central nave without transept, Medieval wall paintings and stained glass windows create a peaceful ambience, while the baroque/neo‑classical façades and serene interior have made it a popular live‑music venue.
