Music & Sport - Football in concert

This is our first official concert of More than Classic on Saturday 30th June 2018, 7pm at Tonhalle Maag, Zürich.

To launch More than Classic, we have deliberately commissioned new music to mirror our passion for innovation and presenting new ways of music. Our concert is a live music performance from 7 exceptional instrumentalists who will play as an ensemble and have solo parts too. Our music commission guidelines state that the music will be played in sync with the live stream of the World Cup football match between Group A and Group B (1/8 round) which has been confirmed to us by FIFA that it will be one the of most exciting matches. Our music commission will be extremely innovative as it has to reflect the emotions, passion and action during a live football game and we wanted to find a composer who will also perform and lead the instrumentalists in the concert. Therefore, we made an executive search and commissioned the internationally renowned Lucy Landymore (composer and multi-percussionist, UK) to write and lead our project.

We are delighted to have an incredible ensemble to present our concert:

Andreas Berger, Percussion, Zürich

Lucy Landymore, Percussion, London

Dave Marks, Bass, Zürich

Irina Pak, Violin, Zürich

David Stauffacher, Percussion, Zürich

Bernhard Schoch, Trumpet, Zürich

Alex Wilson, Keyboard, Zürich

We will bring an audience together that are classical music goers, FIFA, football clubs in and around Zürich, Jazz lovers (ZHdK, clubs and jam sessions), drums and percussion students and fans and schools and the Tonhalle audience.

As part of our Music & Sports theme, we have an exciting pre-concert show “BMX & Fussball & Violine” with special guest Chris Böhm (BMX Weltrekordhalter). We will have modern music played by Irina Pak (Violin) and in rhythm to her music, Chris Böhm and our footballer will be making ground breaking tricks in the hope of breaking official records.
